🧪 Herts Professor Calls for Universities to Lead on Biosecurity

A University of Hertfordshire professor has urged UK universities to take a leading role in protecting the country from future biological threats. Writing this week, Professor Dan McCluskey argued that universities have the research expertise needed to detect emerging risks and develop new technologies for rapid response. The work links to ongoing biodetection research at Herts and highlights how university labs could play a bigger role in national security and public health. 

🌍 Global Week Begins Next Week at Herts

Students will see a series of international events arriving on campus next week as the University of Hertfordshire hosts Global Week from 9–13 March. The annual programme celebrates the university’s worldwide partnerships and multicultural student community, with activities focused on global learning, international culture and opportunities to study abroad. 

🎤 Public Lecture to Take Place on De Havilland Campus

The Hertfordshire High Sheriff’s Annual Lecture will take place on 16 March at the Weston Auditorium on the De Havilland campus. The event brings together community leaders, academics and students for a public discussion on regional and national issues. Students interested in civic leadership, politics or public service may find the lecture particularly relevant. 

🎉 Major Student Festival Planned for March

Students can also look ahead to Hertsfest, a free campus festival scheduled for 25 March at the College Lane Oval. Organisers say the event will feature live performances, food stalls, games and prize giveaways designed to bring students together before the end of term.
