The University of Hertfordshire has secured a prominent position in the Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey (PTES) 2024, ranking fifth overall among 108 participating institutions. The survey, conducted by the higher education charity Advance HE, evaluates various aspects of the postgraduate student experience, including satisfaction, support, and teaching quality.
Hertfordshire University excelled across all surveyed categories, achieving top ten rankings in each section. Notably, the university ranked first for Support, second for Community and Skills Development, and third for Resources. It also placed fifth for Overall Satisfaction, seventh for Teaching, and sixth for Engagement and Organisation.
The university outperformed the sector average with an impressive 92% overall student satisfaction score, surpassing the sector average of 84%. With a response rate of 37.1% from its postgraduate students—12.4 percentage points above the sector’s average—the university demonstrated strong engagement and feedback participation.
In addition to its survey results, Hertfordshire University has shown continued excellence in the National Student Survey, where it was ranked first in the East of England for overall student positivity for the second consecutive year.
Dr. Charmagne Barnes, Pro Vice Chancellor of Education and Student Experience, praised the results as a reflection of the university’s commitment to supporting postgraduate students. She expressed gratitude to the staff for their dedication and efforts in enhancing the postgraduate experience.
The PTES results highlight Hertfordshire’s strong performance across multiple academic disciplines, including Law and Medicine, where both ranked third with a satisfaction rate of 92%.
