I’m Radhika Latha, a 25-year-old pursuing an MA in Journalism and Media at the University of Hertfordshire. Originally from Kerala, India, my journey into journalism has been driven by a passion for storytelling and a desire to bring meaningful issues to light.
Growing up in Kerala, a place rich in cultural and media diversity, I was naturally drawn to the world of journalism. From a young age, I was fascinated by how media can influence perceptions and drive change. This interest led me to study Communication and Media Studies for my undergraduate degree, where I achieved top honors and completed an internship with a prominent news organization in India. This hands-on experience allowed me to understand the intricacies of news reporting and the ethical considerations involved in journalism.
My decision to study at the University of Hertfordshire was motivated by a desire to expand my knowledge of global media trends and refine my skills. The MA program here has been challenging but rewarding, covering essential areas like digital media, media law, and advanced reporting. I’ve enjoyed blending traditional journalism techniques with modern digital tools, which has broadened my perspective on how media can be used effectively in today’s world.
One of my significant projects involved investigating the impact of climate change on coastal communities in Kerala. This experience underscored the importance of in-depth reporting and the need to present stories with both accuracy and empathy. It was a rewarding challenge to connect with affected communities and share their experiences with a broader audience.
At the University of Hertfordshire, I am actively involved in the student newspaper, where I write about social justice, cultural exchange, and global issues. Collaborating with fellow students on multimedia projects has been a great way to enhance my skills in video production and digital storytelling. Outside of my studies, I am committed to continuous learning and professional development.
